6 Best Times to Get Professional Photos of the Kids

Documenting your kids through professional photography as they grow is priceless. As parents we get no greater pleasure than looking back through photographs of our children from their early years through to the here and now.

Here are 6 times during the year that are great opportunities to have photos of the children (and the family).

#1 Newborn Shoot

Towards the end of your pregnancy, is the perfect time to start thinking about getting your newborn baby shoot booked in. The first few weeks after your newborn arrives is such a wonderful time, and they grow and change so quickly. Everyone snaps away on their mobile phone, so that within a month you have literally hundreds of images of your little miracle.

It’s a shame that, typically, once images land on a mobile device, that’s where they tend to stay. A professional newborn shoot gives so much more, because you’ll be more inclined to get photos framed or put in a photo book, so that you get the opportunity to see these memories every day.

#2 1st or 2nd Birthday Cake Smash

Starting as young as possible, when your child reaches their 1st or 2nd birthday, there’s nothing better than a fun Cake Smash to mark the occasion. This age is when they are truly experimenting and when they are left to their own free will to play in messy cake - without being cleaned up at every bite - they have the most fun!

These photos are a giggle to look back over as they grow.

#3 Springtime

Getting the family and the children into the studio during the spring season is a good time to have a professional photoshoot to mark Mothers Day, Easter and/or Fathers Day.

This is a prime time during the year to bring the whole family together, hang out away from the pressures and busyness of life and have your memories captured.

#4 Back to School Shoot

The beauty of having a studio ‘back to school shoot’ is that your child can be captured in their most natural and authentic way.

When I do these shoots in the studio, there’s no posing necessary, your child can just be themselves. With natural images, when you look back over these photos in years to come, you’ll get the essence of their little personalities just by looking at the photos. Not to mention the fact that they will be mortified at how they looked in their little school uniforms!

#5 Christmas Mini Shoot

Christmas comes and goes and it’s a really busy time each year.

Starting the season off way before 25th with a Christmas mini shoot gets the children and the whole family into the spirit of the festivities to come. Whether you’re having a quiet Christmas or a chaotic one with lots of friends and family, looking back over these photos will be fun.

During this busy time, going into a studio for a shoot with the children and the family gives you all the opportunity to just ‘be’, and hang out together while you look forward to Christmas.

#6 A Life Changing Event

There are so many events that can take place in our lives that bring about change. It can be anything from a wedding, a new birth, moving to a new area, a life limiting illness. So many things that can make us wish we’d taken photos or done something different, because when time passes it’s gone. When change happens or if you can see it coming, it’s a great opportunity for you to have a professional shoot with the kids, no matter how old they are. Priceless!
